Jerry and I were up early so we headed out for the sunrise. Carol and Annie passed on sunrise this a.m. Carol still not feeling well.
No clouds this morning and it was great. When we got back, we went to the dining room and had some breakfast. Our flite is at 10 a.m. and we have to be there at 9:30. We headed out in plenty of time. Annie and I got registered, saw the safety video and then waited for our flite. The finally called us and we got outside where they took our pictures then we got to wait. And wait and wait! They took one helicopter out of service so we did not take off until about 10:30. It was a great flite. We flew over the east side of the canyon and could see the Painted Desert, etc. Saw the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers, then flew over the North Rim and back to the airport. Took lots of pictures. There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was bright. That made for some reflections in the glass of the helicopter, but we took lots of pictures anyway. Annie having trouble with her camera, so I am official photographer for this trip. After the helicopter flite we headed out of the park and on to the next destination.
We stopped at a couple of lookouts on the east side of the canyon. In my opinion, the most impressive one was the watchtower lookout. We went up on top of the gift shop of the tower and got great views of the canyon. Did not go all the way up the tower. Took some great pix and then back in the car for the ride to Page. Wanted to show them the Glen Canyon Dam,etc.
Got to Page around 3:30 p.m., checked into a Day's Inn which was a REALLY nice hotel. Went to dinner at the Dam Bar and Grille - it was OK, but not spectacular. Then we headed for the Dam but the Visitor Center was closed. We walked halfway across the bridge and got great views on both sides. The sun was low in the sky and the colors on the rocks, etc. was gorgeous. Since Carol and Annie had not been to Utah, we drove to Wahweap Marina and then a few miles down the road to the Utah border. We took a side road down to the lake and the colors were beautiful. There was a huge rock in the water and it was a really pretty spot. There were lots of campers down by the water's edge. Drove back to the hotel. Carol feeling somewhat better, but still not great. Still has not had a good night's sleep. Hopefully tonite will be better. I downloaded the pictures from today and they came to the room to watch them on the laptop.
